Privacy Policy

The Oral Health Association of Australia Ltd (OHAA) adopts Australian Privacy Principles in order to protect the privacy of its members, volunteers, staff, clients and stakeholders as set out in the Privacy Act 1988.

Collection of personal information

There are occasions when OHAA collects personal information, including sensitive information through its activities as the national peak body for dental hygienists, dental therapists and oral health therapists.

The main purposes for the collection, storage, utilisation and disclosure of these information are for:

  • Membership management and communication
  • Distribution of professional resources and information
  • Communication with prospective members on OHAA membership benefits
  • Seeking input and feedback
  • Transactions related to subscription, event registration and online shopping
  • Issuing various awards and certificates
  • Delivery of online events, education or assessment

All personal information is collected with the consent of, and whenever possible, directly from each individual. Personal information collected by OHAA will only be used or disclosed for the purpose they were originally collected, or for a related purpose that the individual would, under normal circumstances, be reasonably expected.

OHAA will not disclose any personal information to a third party unless explicitly allowed by law, or with the consent of the individual.

Security of information

OHAA utilises a virtual office and as such all personal information collected are stored online electronically. Access to these information are restricted to authorised staff or volunteers and password protected.
OHAA implements ICT security including encryption, firewalls, anti-spam and anti-virus software was well as staff training and work place policies to protect personal information collected.

Security of financial transactions

OHAA processes all payments using secured online technologies that meet industry security standards. No historical banking or credit card details are stored.

Website privacy and security

OHAA collects statistical data about visits to the OHAA website such as number of hits, most common accessed pages, returned visitors, time spent on each page and records of overall activities. Cookies are used and they will be stored on individual’s devices to facilitate return visits to the OHAA website.

The OHAA website provides links to third party websites. These are not covered by the OHAA Privacy Policy as OHAA has no control over their content and/or security.

Access and correction of personal information

OHAA provides all members and prospective members access to view and amend their personal information via its website. OHAA will take reasonable steps to ensure the information stored is accurate and up to date. A reasonable fee may be charged if an individual requests OHAA’s support to access or correct personal information collected by OHAA.

Complaints

Any complaints about how OHAA has collected or handled your personal information may be sent via email: [email protected]. OHAA staff will endeavour in the first instance to deal with the complaint and take any steps necessary to resolve the matter within 5 working days. For more complex issues, a response will be provided within 30 days of receipt of the complaint.
