Marcy Patsanza - Mkonto

Dental Hygienist (with Psychology Qualifications)

AdvDipOralHlth(DentHygn), BPsychSc

Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Marcy moved to Australia as a teenager to pursue a career in dentistry. After practicing as a Dental Hygienist for several years, her career path took a twist, leading her to explore the field of psychology.

With nearly a decade of experience as a dental hygienist, Marcy has worked in private practice, aged care settings, and rural and remote communities through the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Her awareness of the critical need for mental health support in communities inspired her to pursue a degree in psychology, which she completed in 2022. She is currently completing her honours equivalent, which will enable her to obtain provisional registration as a psychologist by the end of the year. Following this, she plans to enrol in the Master’s program next year to work towards full registration.

Alongside her dental career, Marcy has been working in the human services sector for the past two years at AnglicareSA, supporting vulnerable young people through services that place a strong emphasis on prioritising mental health and well-being.

Marcy’s mission is to integrate her expertise in both fields, ensuring that mental well-being is given priority in dental care. As a result, Marcy has since become an accredited Mental Health First Aid Instructor and now delivers this training to dental professionals. Additionally, Marcy has also contributed to the TAFE SA Advanced Diploma of Oral Health curriculum as a member of TAFE SA’s Course Advisory Committee by promoting and sharing insight on the integration of trauma-informed care into dental practice.
